Medicines can only be obtained from pharmacies, whether branded products or medicines supplied on medical prescription. Only a few pharmacies are open at night and on public holidays.
Late-Night Pharmacies
A number of pharmacies are open 24 hours a day, including one on the upper level of Stazione Centrale (tel: 02/669-0735). Others take turns staying open late and on weekends; to find the nearest one, check the roster outside any pharmacy or the list published in the Corriere della Sera. Alternatively, you can call 0661/14471 for medical information.
Medical Plans
No one plans to get sick while traveling, but it happens, so consider signing up with a medical-assistance company. Members get doctor referrals, emergency evacuation or repatriation, hot lines for medical consultation, cash for emergencies, and other assistance.
